Participation is by application and invitation only. Invitations are based on the applicant’s ability to provide sufficient information to a nine member ”Application Review Committee for them to be reasonably assured that the applicant sings in tune and will be able, in 16 weeks, to memorize and perform the words, notes and interpretation of 12 musically and vocally demanding songs from fully interpreted CDs and sheet music provided. The applicant must agree to be a positive contributor to the event and to be able to support himself and three other equally well prepared quartet partners in an adjudicated competition or gracefully bow out with some qualified forfeitures.

The AHB is geared primarily to experienced, competitive, intermediary quartetters. Applicants with District level quartet experience (or higher) are ideal candidates. This event is not ideally suited or even recommended for most novice, pick-up, Valentine’s Day or strictly division level quartetters. However, other information that may be used to supplement and support an applicant in lieu of District (or comparable) distinction may include in the application for consideration. For example:

a) Sponsorship by another active, returning Brigade participant.
b) Compelling references from a knowledgeable, credible and independent source.
c) Verifiable formal vocal education and training outside of the BHS.
d) Chapter voice sectional leadership or Chorus Directing.
e) Verifiable solo vocal performance experience outside of the BHS.

Participation is limited to 124 qualified men in 31 equally distributed voice parts on a "first qualified to apply, first invited", tiered however, as follows:

Members and last year's (2009) returning participants will be given the courtesy of "priority application review" status, up until Jan 30th. The First time guests who are nominated and sponsored by an AHB *Member will be given the courtesy of an early application review in the first half of February. Unsponsored, first time applicants, will have to obtain "board assigned sponsorship" if approved their applications will be reviewed in the second half of Feb. The deadline for all applications otherwise is March 1st.

Nomination for Membership in the Atlantic Harmony Brigade is available to BHS members after attending and securing AHB “Stage Passes” for two consecutive annual rallies. Qualification for membership requires demonstrating proficiency to a Membership Review Team and demonstrated subscription to the AHB Esprit De Corps requiring each Member and participant to “be a guy everyone was glad they sang with”.
